What is classical homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a natural treatment. It stimulates and encourages your body's natural healing mechanism. The homeopathic remedy gives the selfhealing mechanism an energetic stimulus which restores the balance. Classical homeopathy refers to the original method as developed by its founder, Samuel Hahnemann.

Doctor Samuel Hahnemann

The German Dr. Hahnemann is the founder of classical homeopathy. In 1790 he was a chemist of some repute and discovered the principle of similarity when he took a dose of kinabast (=quinine). He produced all the symptoms of malaria, while quinine was known to be a profound cure for malaria. Quinine is an alkaloid derived from cinchona bark, and until World War I it was the only effective means for the treatment of malaria. He spent the rest of his life investigating more than two hundred remedies by testing them on himself and his relatives, meticulously recording the symptoms. Since then the proovings continued and by now there are a few thousand remedies known.

Principle of similarity

coffea

Homeopathy is based on the principle of similarity which states that like cures like: similia similibus curentur. This principle can be traced back to the Greek Doctor Hippocrates. The principle is simple: a given substance can cure in a diseased person the symptoms that it produces or causes in a healthy person. Coffee for instance can cause sleeplessness. Coffee as a homeopathic remedy (Coffea) can cure insomnia in people who are overactive and sensitive.

Vital force

Symptoms are a signal of the disturbed vital force. By ignoring the cause of the disturbance and suppressing the symptoms the cause of the problem will not be solved. The effects of the disturbance are expressed in symptoms. The classical homeopath will investigate these symptoms in depth to get a picture of the totality. This totality is compared with the remedy pictures described in the materia medica. The homeopathic remedy activates the vital force and restores the self healing mechanism.
